The End of the Line is a book published in June 2007 is based on the overfishing problem we have today, if our actions aren't alterred now the ocean will be empty by 2048. The documentary released in 2009 was interesting to see what fishermen actually do- their techniques and equipment. Bycatching is the result from using trawls- huge fishing nets which are dragged along the sea floor catching a mass amount of fish including unwanted fish. This also disturbs and ruins their environment, and the unwanted fish which are dead are thrown back into the sea.
As the consumer, the campaign isn't asking us to stop eating fish, but to:
- watch out for the red list of fish.
- only by sustainable fish- ask before you buy.
- speak to politicians.
- join the campaign.
As a graphic designer, my task is to raise awareness by designing a minimum of 4 postage stamps. In this 5 week project I will specialise within handmade graphics, which could be a working with specific material or a method of recording. I have chosen to work with paper, and the style will be paper cutting- by hand and machine. There will be workshops available i.e. origami, photography, where I will learn/ develop my skills.
